Ice Cube Smoothies

Don't want to waste those extra servings of smoothie you have leftover? Use whatever is left to make Ice Cube Smoothies. All you have to do is scoop the smoothie left overs into an ice-cube tray and freeze.

If you want to be fancy, you can get the layered look by literally layering different flavored smoothies on top of each other. Here's what they will look like:

The best thing about making Ice Cube Smoothies is that it allows A LOT of variation. Plus, you can get as fancy or basic as you want.

For example, you can:

  • substitute smoothies with juices, fruit chunks, and even veggies
  • make mini ice pops by wrapping the ice-cube tray with plastic wrap and sticking toothpicks through the top
  • freeze diced fruit in water to get flavored iced water
  • freeze the juice from your drink instead of making regular ice cubes (useful if you don't like your drink to get watery by melted ice)
  • layer coconut milk and fruit juice to get a smoothie taste w/o having to actually make a smoothie

Peach Basil Smoothie

I've been really getting inspired by smoothie recipes lately and this is just another one that I'm interested in trying out. I really like mango-themed smoothies, peaches shouldn't be too far off, right?

  • ½ C. 0% plain Greek yogurt*
  • 3 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 C. peaches, sliced & frozen
  • ½ banana, frozen & chopped
  • 1 lemon, squeezed
  • 1 teaspoon dill
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 C. white grape juice**

Put all ingredients into blender. Blend until smooth and frothy. Pour... and voilà!

*Swap out traditional yogurt and hop on the Greek yogurt bandwagon!

**Can be swapped out for the more commonly found Orange juice.

All of the leftover smoothie can be poured into an ice-cube tray to make Ice Cube Smoothies, which is a yummy way to stay cool in the summer heat.

Is Instagram Killing Personal Style Blogs?

Readers, and the advertisers that profit from them, have flocked to Instagram, ultimately leaving the styling blogs they once relied on to figure out what to wear and who's wearing it.

My personal opinion on the matter is that social media only represents a few pieces of the puzzle. If a reader was to soley rely on Instagram and Snapchat to reach their favorite fashion personalities, they wouldn't be getting the whole picture.

Personal style bloggers and bloggers that have a singular focus (ie. vloggers, photographers) are the ones mainly threatened by social media. Bloggers with a more instructional focus (food and DIY bloggers) are less likely to lose traffick to their websites. However, the bloggers that are least likely to lose readership and in fact may gain readers are the ones with multi-purpose blogs. People come back for the weekly lifestyle updates, the occasional inspired DIY project, the freebie review Fridays, and the Forever 21 hauls. If you are a Fashion/Lifestyle blogger, DIY/Lifestyle blogger, Fashion/DIY/Lifestyle blogger with the occasional food post, then you develop more of a relatable personality that can't just be pinned and left to catch dust on a Pinterest board.

Maybelline New York Color Show Bleached Neons Collection

Maybelline New York color show muted neons collection

Maybelline New York launched its new collection of nail lacquers that incorporate muted neons in April, embodying the whole "Spring into Summer" concept.

This is literally what most nail color fanatics have been waiting for - something new that pushes the limit at just the right amount. The color payout is exactly as advertised! Neons are notorious for their transparency and need of a white base coat to get the color desired. However, the Bleached Neons, as with all the products from Maybelline's Color Show collections, end the painstaking struggle of getting the exact color you want. Essentially, what you buy is really what you get as seen here:

The collection was only available April - May, meaning that it is off the shelves by now. However, they are largely sold on eBay and in smaller non-commercial shops. So you have to do a little digging in order to get your hands on one if you haven't already.

I particularly like this new collection because of its ability to be worn by all skin complexions. Pastel colors in the Spring can be too chalky and neon colors in the Summer show up too bright on darker complexions. The Bleached Neons Collection solves this conflict as it is very versatile.

It works with all complexions: the colors don't make lighter hands look veiny and don't make darker hands look like moving highlighters. Also, this collection can be worn throughout two seasons: the colors mimic the pastels of Spring and are punchy enough to be stunning in the Summer. All in all, this collection is definitely a Summer must-have.

Colors in featured image above post include :

Day Glow Teal, Ultra Violet, Lime Accent, Citrus Collide, Bleached in Peach, Pink Punch, and Coral Heat
